Married eight times, undoubtedly Elizabeth Taylor has tangled with a few predators in her time. So perhaps it should come as no surprise to see the 74-year-old actress looking comfortable in a shark cage. Seemingly oblivious to her ever-deteriorating health, the wheelchair-bound star donned a mask and snorkel, and plunged feet first into the Pacific Ocean for a shark-viewing excursion. Later describing the experience as the "most exciting thing" she has ever done, Miss Taylor allowed herself to be barricaded into a 10ft by
6ft Plexiglas cage which was lowered below surface level. Wearing a baggy white t-shirt over an all-in-one swimming costume, she maintained a modicum of glamour with perfectly manicured red nails and several sparkly bangles. After spitting into her mask - to prevent the plastic eye area from misting up - she enthusiastically clambered into the cage, albeit with the help of two aides. From here the double Oscar winner tried the snorkel on for size before tentatively dipping her head into the water and looking for her first shark. Having paddled around for thirty minutes, a clearly exhausted - but happy - Miss Taylor came up for fresh air. In a departure from her usual lady-like elegance, she emerged dripping wet, with her dark hair slicked down in a rather unflattering side parting. After being helped back on board the Kainani boat, she towelled herself down and slipped on a kaftan-style nightdress over navy blue slipper socks. It is not known whether Miss Taylor actually went nose to nose with any Sandbar sharks or Galapagos during the two-hour, £52 fish trip. However, the adventure signifies a remarkable return to health for the actress. For the past few years she has remained a reclusive figure, largely holed up in her Hollywood mansion.

According to insiders, Paramount is set to offer Brad Pitt the lead role in Mission Impossible IV. Pitt will star in the next installment of the MI series, all three of which have featured Tom Cruise as agent Ethan Hunt. Pitt is set to play a new agent who manages his own kick-ass team.

Paramount cut ties with Cruise after offering him a contract paying less than a third of his previous operating expenses. Cruise has since launched his own production company, financed in part by the owner of the Washington Redskins.

Sources say that Paramount will give Pitt an offer he can’t refuse, making him the highest-paid actor in history:

Pitt might be able to revitalize the MI series, which seems to be doing fine even with Cruise at the helm. MI3 did well at the box office, grossing almost $400 million, but it didn’t do quite as well as backers were hoping. MI2 took in over $540 million.

The photos of Anna Nicole, her son Daniel, and newborn, taken just one day before Daniel’s tragic death, have fetched over $600,000 dollars for Anna and the photo agency, Getty Images. Anna’s portion of the profits is unknown, but she may use the money for a memorial for Daniel:

Reps for the 38-year-old Smith and her photo agent, Getty Images, have received more than $600,000 for the rights to snapshots of her late son, Daniel. The lad posed with his mother and his new sister in a Bahamian maternity ward the night before he was found slumped dead in a chair Sept. 10.In Touch magazine paid as much as $400,000 for the print exclusive on photos, and the Paramount-produced television shows “Entertainment Tonight” and “The Insider” forked over an estimated $250,000 for the TV exclusive.

In Touch won the rights, I hear, after topping People’s bid of $350,000. A spokeswoman for In Touch told me, “There is an incredible amount of emotion attached to this story and the photos, and our story will be a tribute to Daniel’s life as a well as a celebration of it.”

I’m told that Anna Nicole has vague plans to use a portion of the money for a Daniel Smith memorial, and it wasn’t clear yesterday what percentage of the proceeds Getty is taking as a commission.

Paramount is warning people not to publish the photos, but they’re still available plenty of places online.

There is no word yet on the cause of Daniel’s death, and the pathologist hired by Anna has made some carefully worded statements that he doesn’t seem to be the victim of foul play, and that there was no trauma to the body. Daniel does not seem to have died from a suicidal overdose, although he was on a “low dose” of antidepressants, which were found in his system. He was only 20, and most antidepressants carry a black box warning for increased risk of suicide in teenagers and children. He was only on the drugs for a month to six weeks. (I am not against the use of pharmaceuticals, which have helped many people overcome depression, but it seems like something to look into in this case.)

Beyonce’s “B-Day” is at the top of the US charts, and she claims to have turned 25 on her b-day this year. I’ve always thought it was strange that she’s only 25, because she looks at least a few years older to me.

She supposedly made this video with Destiny’s Child in 1998 when she was at the tender age of 16, but she looks at least 19 to me. Maybe she just filled out early. What do you guys think? Screenshots of Beyonce from the video are below.

Supermodel Kate Moss and notorious junkie Pete Doherty were reumored to be engaged a few weeks ago, and were said to be planning a quickie wedding in Ibiza. Pete was ordered off to rehab after another drug arrest and/or trial, I can’t keep up, which put a damper on their plans. The lovebirds are still together, though, and they were spotted in flagrante outside on a bench at Pete’s rehab facility:

Everyone’s buzzing about Kate Moss’ new look. The stick-thin supermodel donned some plain high-waisted carpenter jeans at Fashion Week, perhaps signifying the demise of the skinny jean trend. Her fashion change could have been influenced by this incident at Pete’s rehab facility where her skinny jeans gave her away.

If only she’d buck the “dating a druggie” trend too.

David Beckham said that he turned to best buddy Tom Cruise in a time of need after getting dumped from England’s national team. Beckham was sidelined with injuries to his ankle and Achilles’ tendon when he stepped down as caption of England’s team during the World Cup this year. He said he wanted to continue playing for England, but was left out of an exhibition game at the beginning of August, signifying new coach Steve McClaren’s decision to cut him from the team. McClaren said that he wanted a fresh slate without Beckham, and statements by David and his wife Victoria show how much the snub hurt him.

David said that Tom Cruise’s positive attitide helped him get over the pain of getting cut from the team.

Tom seems like a good friend, but I suspect he takes every opportunity to work Scientology into the conversation. It was rumored that Tom and Katie were working to convert the Beckhams to their cult religion, but Victoria was since spotted out with a trendy red Kabbalah bracelet, and their efforts seem to have been in vain. The Beckhams do speak fondly of their friendship with Tom and Katie to the press.

Even if his soccer career is taking a hit, Beckham seems to be doing fine. He has a new autobiography, “Making it Real,” which was undoubtedly written by someone else, and is putting out a his and her perfume line with his wife, Victoria. This is Beckham’s second autobiography, his first “Both Feet on The Ground,” was published in 2002. He also has a photo book out, which was published in 2004.

Ben Affleck just went up ten points in my estimation. First he marries the nicest celebrity around, and now he’s dealing with security at the airport just like everyone else. TMZ says Ben charmed the TSA staff while going through security at LA’s airport:

I wonder if security would have asked Affleck to ditch his screenplay if he’d had one with him. “But I’m an Oscar-winning writer!” “Yeah, right.”

Shakira looks to have dyed her hair brown since her appearance at the VMAs. She was photographed in a turquoise sun dress coverup with darker hair outside her Miami home recently. Going dark seems ot be a trend with singers and actresses alike. Most recently J.Lo showed up at the Toronto Film Festival as a brunette. Britney Spears dyed her blonde hair black a few weeks ago, and Cameron Diaz also sports darker hair now.

Shakira is seen with her longterm boyfriend, Antonio De La Rua. Antonio is the son of disgraced Argentinian president Fernando De La Rua, who resigned in December, 2001 during the Argentinian economic crisis. Antonio appears in Shakira’s video, “Underneath Your Clothes.”

I put Avril Lavigne on bump watch a few months ago when she looked a little fuller in the midsection and friends blabbed that she wanted to start a family right away. Her baby bump never grew, making it unlikely that she was pregnant. When I saw these pictures of Avril kissing her new husband, Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley, I thought her top looked a little suspicious.

Star Magazine said she might be pregnant, and recent candids show some kind of bulge, but she was seen out at fashion week sipping champagne and wearing a form-fitting tank top. If she’s pregnant she’s hiding it very well. She might be trying, but I don’t think she’s pregnant at this point.

It’s all speculation, and Avril looks quit fit in these pictures from Fashion Week. Let’s hope she gets pregnant soon if she’s trying, though.

At 18 years old, Aaron Carter proposed to his girlfriend Kari Ann Peniche, who everyone has totally seen naked in Playboy. Aaron popped the question in Las Vegas during the Playboy Comedy Tour in front of 200 people. An interesting annotation is Kari used to date Aaron’s brother Nick. Knowing this, I would have said no if I was Kari. Constantly being asked questions like “Does Nick do it like this?” or “My penis is bigger, right? You giggling means yes?” doesn’t seem like it would make a blissful marriage or maybe it does. I wouldn’t really know because I’m so sexy that I bed a different girl every night. By “girl” I mean Myspace and by “every night” I mean never and “bed” is actually a bed because that’s where I go to cry.
