Okay, This is Cool Marketing

The Simpsons movie is going to join up with 7-11 to turn the stores into Kwik-E-Marts!

How cool is that? Look here:

If all goes as planned, the convenience store chain plans to refit 11 stores across the U.S. to resemble the front of the Kwik-E-Mart, the convenience store that Homer and other characters frequent in the classic cartoon TV series.

Why aren’t they doing all of them? Forever? Like you wouldn’t stop at a Kwik-E-Mart everyday. Don’t lie. You would. Even better:

Customers also will be able to buy products inspired by the nearly two-decades-old show, including KrustyO’s cereal, Buzz Cola and iced Squishees (the cup says Squishee, but the contents will be Slurpee).

Yay! I want a Buzz Cola! Actually I want a Duff Beer too. And some Laramie Cigarettes. I wasn’t holding out much hope for this movie but my anticipation is now building. Who would have thought there was something new under the advertising sun? Nice work fellas.

Full article, not as fun as this one, here.

Which Springfield Will Get the Simpsons Movie Premiere?

Source: www.evilbeetgossip.com

Is everyone else super-psyched for the new Simpsons movie? It doesn’t come out until July, but I have high hopes for it. I’ve been watching The Simpsons for as long as I can remember — I had a “Don’t Have a Cow, Dude” t-shirt when I was like 8 years old that I thought was just the coolest thing on the planet, and a “Cowabunga” beach towel to go along with it. For comparison purposes, I also had like six slap bracelets and my other favorite shirt featured a pony with a bow in her hair, but still.

The television show is set in the mythical Springfield — a very common name for cities in the U.S. — and the writers never let on as to the state in which the Simpson family lives. They want to premiere the film in Springfield — so the question is, which one?

20th Century Fox has invited 16 of the Springfields nationwide to compete for the honor of hosting the premiere. Fox will pick the winner based on short film entries showcasing the community’s positive aspects and links to the Simpsons. (Links to the Simpsons? Like what? “As luck would have it, guys, we have an incompetent police force, a grossly mismanaged nuclear facility and an inadequate public school system! Look no further!”)

“There’s plenty of serious issues to talk about, but this is something that we might as well try to have a little fun with,” said Springfield (which one?) Mayor Sid Leiken.

This is a fun publicity stunt. I sure hope someone puts those short film entries on YouTube (hint, hint, Fox!!!)

Why do American Idols get all the cool stuff?

The lucky bastards on American Idol were treated to a sneak preview of the new Simpsons movie. These might be new scenes or they might be old. I haven’t been keeping up with all my Simpsons previews. I think they’re mostly old though. The cool part is when they show how they draw the characters. Animation cells begone. God, what I wouldn’t give to tour around the Simpsons studio.

A new Simpsons trailer

Why does this remind me of Jackass? It better be funny…or else! On a server related note, for anyone sending me email I am having some problems with my server so I don’t even know if I’m getting messages anymore. I definitely know I can’t send any out. I’m working on fixing it right now and hopefully when that’s done there will be peace on Earth.

The official trailer for The Simpsons movie premiered last night. To say it was disappointing is an understatement. You know when Homer is slammed between a rock and a building named “A Hard Place?” Genius. Why don’t you insult your audience some more by handing out pamphlets detailing every reference in the movie and title it with “Read this if you are a complete moron.” And last night’s episode was another let down. No substance or anything memorable. All I remember was Homer joined the Army.

Simpsons does some clever editing?

Homer Simpson

Last week a pre-air episode of The Simpsons’ Treehouse of Horror leaked. The real one aired Sunday without the watermark, but contained another slight difference. It was missing the Iraq line at the end. Now one side has concocted a conspiracy theory of Fox taking out the line. The other side seems to think the producers took it out because it was repetitive. My theory? The Simpsons is not as funny as it used to be so they can take out whatever they want. I guess that’s not really a theory, but whatever smarty pants.

The Simpsons will never end

The Simpsons

In news that is both uplifting and disconcerting, Matt Groening has revealed that as long as his people have a good time making The Simpsons, there will be no end in sight. This piece of news seems appropriate as the season premiere was on Sunday.

Lately (read: 8 seasons ago), The Simpsons has been going downhill. I only let out one chuckle during the season premiere. Even Paris Hilton being arrested gave me two. Seeing Homer become dumber each season and being relegated as some go to gag is like a kick in the head.

The Simpsons should be about Homer going to the racetrack with Bart on Christmas to win money for presents and coming home with Santa’s Little Helper, but I doubt you’ll ever see that level of writing come back. You’ll just have to live with Homer squishing his boobs together in front of a mirror.

The Simpsons movie

Someone at Comic-Con managed to get footage of The Simpsons movie previews. It’s not refined yet and has no color, but it’s worth a look. I think it’s still dumb Homer from the later seasons instead of the smarter Homer from the earlier seasons, but it’ll do. If they can get Conan back to write for some of the movie, it will be comedy gold, but the odds of that happening are comparable to the show being consistently funny again. Second preview below the jump.
