Don’t forget tonight is the series finale of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip

First NBC pulled this show for two shows that scored lesser ratings than it and then they buried on Thursday at 10p after the season was over and finally tonight after returning better than ever Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip says good-bye forever. Seriously this show came with a one two punch with Jordan having complications after giving birth to her daughter and Tom Jeter’s brother being kidnapped in Iraq. Someone wrote if maybe they did these storylines earlier on in the season the show would still be on the air and I wonder if that is true. Oh well, no nut campaign to save the show.

So here is fitting good-bye to a great show…

Studio 60 Actually Made Me Cry Tonight

Studio 60 Canceled

I’m so pissed that they’re canceling this show. Care to reconsider, NBC?

Look, I love Tina Fey and 30 Rock as much as the next guy; it’s well-written, engaging and funny, just in a different way. As much shit as I give him, I love Aaron Sorkin’s work, both on crack and off; his characters say things that need to be said, and his storytelling and dialogue are almost incomparably brilliant. I suppose with some coaxing I can stomach a world where Paris Hilton can buy her way out of jail, but I don’t know if I can live in a world where a major network can green-light the cougars-vs-kittens Age of Love and this show doesn’t get another season.

Studio 60 back tonight on NBC

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip is finally back on NBC tonight to finish off it’s run. Before the NBC and us say good-bye to the show, lets tune in like crazy and make NBC regret their decision to cancel the show. That is the best revenge you can do to save a show!

Studio 60 is Going Away

I hope you’re happy TV execs. Now hopefully you can put on some shitty game show instead.

Here’s the whole article, but the skinny is they’ve struck the set of Studio 60. “Struck” means “dismantled,” I just wanted to use some of that lingo I learned during the 12th grade play.

With no set it’s very hard to film a show.

I will miss you Studio 60. You may have been sappy, but you had potential.

Looks like Studio 60 is not coming back next season

Although Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip is slated to come back on May 24th, it is not looking good that it will come back next season. According to the Post-Gazette (via The Evil Beet) after the show wrapped for the season, the sets were taken down. And things we learned for Everwood once the sets go away, so does the show. I think NBC made a mistake by keeping it on Mondays at 10p, it just wasn’t a good fit with Heroes. Oh well one less thing for my DVR to record next season.

Oh and the Friends curse continues. Less than two seasons for Matt Le Blanc in Joey , one for Lisa Kudrow in The Comeback, one for Matthew Perry in Studio 60 and still no word on Courtney Cox’s Dirt.

Studio 60 back after sweeps

Well the good news is that NBC has a return date for Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, the bad news it is after sweeps which means it probably will not have a second season. NBC secretly put on the Studio 60 page that show will be taking over ER’s slot (Thursdays at 10p) on May 24th. I have to admit I was not that much of a fan when I first saw it, but I got hooked really fast. I still think NBC made a mistake by keeping it on Mondays at 10p, it was just not the best fit with Heroes.

Studio 60 is a DVR darling!

The initial ratings for NBC’s "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" often don’t look that great. A week later, though, they generally look somewhat better. The first-year series from "West Wing" creator Aaron Sorkin is the most "time-shifted" series on television this season, according to ratings provider Nielsen. That means a greater percentage of its viewers record the show and watch it later than anything else on the broadcast networks. At the beginning of 2006, Nielsen started tracking two different ratings systems as a way to measure the impact of digital video recorders. "Live plus same-day" ratings — the ones reported on Zap2it every morning — measure the number of people who watch a given show as it airs or within the next few hours. In "Studio 60’s" case, that number hovered around 8 million people for much of the fall. Nielsen also tracks "live plus seven" ratings, which includes people who watch a recorded copy of a show within the next week. "Studio 60" adds nearly 11 percent to its total audience in those ratings; including reruns, its average is closer to 9 million viewers for the season. All but one of the top 10 time-shifted shows air on NBC or The CW, suggesting that people may not be breaking their habit of watching higher-rated networks (CBS, ABC) live but are sampling other shows thanks to their DVRs. "Studio 60’s" lead-in, "Heroes," already draws a big same-day audience, but it’s second in the time-shifted ratings as well, adding 9.1 percent more viewers in the following week. The rest of the top 10 are "Gilmore Girls," which adds 7.9 percent more viewers; "America’s Next Top Model," 7.7 percent; "30 Rock," 7.5 percent; "Friday Night Lights," 7.5 percent; "The Nine," 6.7 percent; "Supernatural," 6.7 percent; and "Kidnapped," "One Tree Hill" and "Smallville," all at 6.6 percent.

I am one of those people who watches almost everything on DVR. There are just a handful of shows I watch live and even that is rare. Do you still watch live TV?

Who else had a tear in their eye at the end of Studio 60?

For those of you who do not watch Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Aaron Sorkin did a storyline about displaced musicians from New Orleans who were filling in for staffed musicians so they could send some Christmas gifts home to their families. When they ended the show with the New Orleans band playing O Holy Night, I swear I had a tear come to my eye. It was a really touching moment! I am not sure if you can get that from the clip above, but at least you can enjoy the music and get into the Holiday spirit!!!
BTW the trombone player really is from New Orleans and you check out Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews’ site here.

If Loving Studio 60 is Wrong, I Don’t Wanna Be Right

Just got through watching Monday night’s episode on my TiVo. For all the shit I give Sorkin for the sketches not being funny (they’re still not), the rest of the show is so, so wonderful. It’s not quite the early seasons of The West Wing, but it’s the closest thing that’s been on television since. If you’re not tuning in, you should be. Some observations from tonight:

a) Jordan McDeere is my love.
2) Martha O’Dell is totally Maureen Dowd (who is also my love).

That is all.
