It took me a couple readings to understand this story, so I will explain it. Kate Beckinsale was in Memphis, Tennessee shooting a movie when her assistant sprained her ankle. Beckinsale took her assistant to the ER to have her ankle checked and while she was there Kate asked a doctor about the one-sided numbness she was feeling in her left arm and leg. A doctor told her it was “exhaustion,” which could be true, but it’s likely they only did basic bloodwork, didn’t consider spinal compression or another cause, and it’s one of those dismissive diagnoses that is common in the ER.

British movie star Kate Beckinsale was hospitalized in Memphis, Tennessee over the weekend after complaining of numbness in her left arm and leg.

The actress was shooting the drama ‘Nothing But The Truth’ with Matt Dillon and David Schwimmer when she took her assistant to the hospital after she sprained her ankle.

While there, Beckinsale sought her own check-up and was told she was suffering from exhaustion.

It’s not true that “Beckinsale was hospitalized for exhaustion,” as is being reported by other news outlets. She has one-sided numbness, was taking her assistant to get her ankle checked, and asked about her own condition and was dismissed by the doctor. She may have stayed overnight, but it’s not really clear from this story if she did.

Commentor Rosamund on Gossip Rocks, where we found this story, notes that Beckinsale is 34 and that her father, Richard Beckinsale, died of a heart attack at 31. It’s possible her numbness is stress or exhaustion-related, but it sounds worrying that it’s just on one side like that. It could be a serious condition or something as simple as a pinched nerve. Hopefully Kate is ok and that everything will be fine with her health. Either way, to call one-sided numbness “exhaustion” seems irresponsible. If doctors don’t know what something is immediately they should say so and avoid jumping to dismissive diagnoses in the ER. It may not have happened that way because this story is very short on detail, but it sure sounds like it to me. Where is House when you need him?

Beckinsale will not appear in the third Underworld film. The first two films were directed by her husband Len Wiseman, but he will only serve as producer, not director, for the third. The third film is a prequel and doesn’t seem like it will include Beckinsale’s character. Unfortunately the script has already been written and won’t be shelved by the writers’ strike.

Beckinsale was filming “Nothing But the Truth” in Nashville, TN when she visited the ER with her assistant. It also stars Matt Dillon and David Schwimmer. She has two other films in the can that will also come out next year.

Kate Beckinsale, dressed up as a devil, and husband Len Wiseman, dressed as Satan, took their kid out trick-or-treating yesterday. I’m not sure what their kid dressed up as, but I can tell you what I was for Halloween. I dressed up as a toilet in hopes that Kate Beckinsale would sit on me. It didn’t work out so well. Note to self for next year: Double check you’re in the women’s restroom.

I usually like to work the ass grab in when my date is looking the other way. I’m sorry, did I say date? I meant that girl dancing right behind me and that girl dancing to the right of me because when they turn around I can shrug my shoulders like I don’t know what just happened. Although, that doesn’t work too well with that girl at the shoe store or that girl in the empty parking lot or even that girl walking alone in the alley.

I can’t tell you if these pictures are old or not because there have been a billion pictures of Kate Beckinsale getting into a pool and they all blend together in one sticky mess. I can tell you that Kate Beckinsale has a bruise — or a mole? — on her abdomen which can’t be good. I’d suggest Mr. Len Wiseman stop beating on defenseless women. She can’t help it if I literally charmed the pants off her. It’s a gift. Take comfort in the fact she isn’t the first and won’t be the last (assuming my stash of sleeping pills doesn’t run out and if they do, well, then, there goes my sex life.)

Just a rumor, but I heard the chick interviewing her was like a deuce. Maybe a deuce and a half. That’s why she told the poor heifer she shouldn’t sweat it. Also, and follow closely on this logic, if you aspired to look a certain way, and then they made you look that way… well then you’d be fine right?

“Everybody is retouched, stretched, lengthened, slimmed and trimmed. I could look at a picture of myself from the past and think, `Why don’t I look like that now?’ It’s because I never have!”

Okay, but having your pictures retouched actually helped you. All those people out in “normal-people” land saw you and thought “Wowsers. She’s hot.” Then they went and saw Planet of the Apes and thought “Wow, she’s hot even as an ape!” In other news those people are freaks. Why do you find apes hot, freak? Huh?

Sources on the set of Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale’s new movie, Vacancy, say the two co-stars can’t stand each other and that Luke is a diva. Luke is described showing up hungover bragging about all the girls he hooked up with and how drunk he got.

“He doesn’t want anyone on the set in his line of sight except the director,” said another spy - and that includes his leading lady Beckinsale. Wilson is “outwardly rude and awful to Kate,” the second source said. He often doesn’t show up for “reversal” shots, where he is off-camera but needs to be there for Beckinsale to relate to when she speaks. Instead, he sends a stand-in.

Wilson’s friend denied these claims and says Luke is professional and courteous and is able to bang 4 groupies in one night. Had I been in Luke’s place, I would have charmed Kate with my wit. Then she would leave her husband and run away to Africa with me where we would adopt African babies and we would make passionate love in our little mansion hut and when it rains we’ll argue over why it seems I never have time to fix the leaky roof and then one day I’ll walk in to see Kate cheating on me with my best friend Matumbo and I’ll run away bawling. Why, Kate, why?! We were so good together!
