So Kabbalah is ahead in the battle of the celebrity-favorite cults this week. Cult News reports that illiterate Victoria Beckham has been wearing a red string on her left hand, the Kaballah talisman that supposed to ward off the evil eye. (A red string on the right hand is a symbol of anorexic pride, and given Posh’s stick-thin figure and low level of intelligence, it is possible that she simply confused the two.) This means that she may have picked Madonna’s cult Kaballah over Tom Cruise’s cult Scientology, which she was supposed to be considering based on her friendship with Katie Holmes.

Cindy Adams reports in The NY Post that Lindsay Lohan is also wearing a red string. We pointed out that she had a Kaballah string on at the GM fashion show at the beginning of March. It is indeed not a one-time thing and she mentions to Adams that’s she’s clinging to anything in order to get some sanity:

There are much healthier, safer things to get you through the day Lindsay. Exercise, music, even an occasional drink for one. You’re better off with a hangover and some embarassing pictures than getting involved with the Kabbalah cult.

In terms of Posh’s choice, she may have picked the lesser of two very real evils.

Now two Hollywood men have come out against the Internet. We can expect our favorite blogs and picture forums to be shut down soon. First Harrison Ford bemoaned the fact that he can be quoted and mocked online by anyone, effectively multiplying the power of the gossip rags exponentially.

Now George Clooney is amazed that Gawker had the idea to merge celebrity sightings with Google maps, cutting out a single step for rabid fans. Clooney is advocating what is indeed already going on – that people send fake celebrity sightings to Gawker, which of course has no way to verify them:

That’s right, Georgey, use the Internet to fight the Internet.

The NY Post notes that Gawker had a lot of sightings yesterday, which may suggest that Clooney’s plan to foil the popular Gawker Stalker maps is working. Damn him.

The countdown to the Young Hollywood Awards party presented by Diesel was held yesterday at Liberace’s penthouse in Beverly Hills.

Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards will air this Saturday at 8pm, and will be hosted by Jack Black. We assume that’s what the Young Hollywood Awards party is celebrating. Nickelodeon is set to offer a new online component to the awards, which will allow users to view the event live from different camera angles on demand from the Nickelodeon website.

Guests pictured at last night’s party include Lindsay Lohan, Nicky Hilton, Haylie Duff, Maggie Grace, Natasha Henstridge, Jesse Metcalfe (who brought a female friend), Ryan Cabrera, Brittany Snow, Deborah Gibson, Stacy Keibler, Shannon Elizabeth, Ben Foster, Frankie Muniz, and Melinda Clarke.

The movie ATL opened last night in Los Angeles. Will Smith was a guest at the premiere, but is not starring in the film, an urban coming of age drama about four friends trying to get out of the ghetto. ATL stars Tip “T.I.” Harris, Antwan ‘Big Boi’ Patton, Albert Daniels, Jackie Long, and Evan Ross.

It is loosely based on the filmmakers’ youth in Atlanta in the 80s:

It has been getting mixed reviews, but looks like a strong drama and should be worth seeing.

First Paris is spotted with circular finger-shaped bruises on her arm and now Nicky has one too. The sisters are either into a new kind of harsh arm massage or were grabbing each other hard!

Nicky’s bruise is on her right arm, while Paris’ bruises are on her right, suggesting that they were facing each other during the fight. (And that they both are left handed, which is not true and blows our theory, but it’s a somewhat slow news day.)

We reported yesterday that the break was eminent, and now Kimora’s rep has confirmed that the couple is over.

They met in 1992 when Kimora was just 17 and Russell was 35, and have been married for 8 years. Looks like Kimora got too famous to want to do the work to stay married and we hope she doesn’t get much of a settlement.

We love Gillian Anderson and will see a new X-Files movie and sit through the whole thing even if it’s worse than the God-awful drawn-out series finale. We have to say, though, that she could use some pomade, or even mousse, in these pictures from Broadcasting Press Guild Television and Radio Awards in London last night.

Her hair could have the gently-tousled but finished look if she just would have taken that extra step to secure her flyaways. She also looks a little tipsy, but we could be influenced by the news that she suffered from drunken air rage.

We reported a few days ago that Anderson is going to go topless in her film that’s in production, the British thriller “Straightheads.” Anderson has admitted that she’s had trouble finding work, and said that the longer you’re out of the business, the harder it is to find film roles. She has three films in the works, though, and looks to be making a comeback.

Anderson has found success in England with work on stage and for the BBC. Here she is with her nearly-done hair.
